RailNET System Overview
RailNET is an advanced train control system product line that provides
non-vital control and supervision, planning, and training for railway
control systems (eg., as used for rapid transit systems and for light rail
systems). Within an Automatic Train Control (ATC) environment that
provides Automatic Train Protection (ATP), Automatic Train Operation
(ATO), and Automatic Train Supervision (ATS), the RailNET system
provides complete ATS functionality.
The RailNET product line consists of the following components:
 |
the
RailNET Simulation and Training System (STS) providing
simulation of signalling system functionality and simulation of
train movements,
|
 |
the
RailNET Automatic Train Management System (ATMS), providing
a complete and state-of-the-art Automatic Train Supervision system,
|
 |
the
RailNET Timetable Management System (TMS) providing offline
generation, manipulation, and testing of railway / transit timetables,
|
 |
the RailNET Engineering Support System (ESS) providing pre- and
post-installation planning including headway analysis and timetable
verification based on guideway layout, rolling stock characteristics,
passenger queuing, etc., and
|
 |
the RailNET Track Planner System (TPS) providing the capability
of generating layered guideway layouts, in a scaled and / or logical
format, with data import and export.
|
When RailNET products are deployed in conjunction with vital wayside /
trainborne signalling systems (ATP) and wayside / trainborne train
operation systems (ATO), the end result is a complete and automated
railway management system. The RailNET TMS is an integral part of the
RailNET ATMS and STS but may also be used as a stand-alone product.

The figures to the right provide an overview
of the relationship between the RailNET ATMS
and the RailNET STS components, and with
systems provided by others, in revenue
generating and simulation / training
environments.
The RailNET hardware and software is based
upon a distributed architecture that permits
the relocation of the system's functionality to
meet the requirements of the end-user. In
addition, the RailNET software is based upon
open system principles that promotes system
adaptability to function in various
environments: the RailNET system can be
deployed into an existing rail / transit line
that is being retro-fitted, deployed in
conjunction with the development of a new
line, or deployed in a hybrid system of
an existing and a new line.
