RailNET Simulation and Training System
The RailNET Simulation and Training System (STS) includes subsystems
to simulate signalling system (ATP and ATO) functionality and to
simulate the movement of trains.
The RailNET STS forms an integral component of the complete RailNET
Train Management and Control System. When utilized in conjunction
with the train management components of the
RailNET ATMS, the
RailNET STS provides a realistic training environment for the operators
of the RailNET ATMS. The training may include the introduction of
equipment / communications failures, replay of actual events, replay of
generated scenarios, and / or normal timetabled movements of trains.
|
In addition to training, the RailNET STS is
utilized as software development and
enhancement tools to test updates to the
RailNET ATMS.
To accomplish the objectives of a realistic
training tool and an acceptable software test
tool, the RailNET STS models the underlying
signalling system and movement of trains to a
high level of accuracy based on the stated
characteristics of the underlying vital and
non-vital systems and of the target rolling stock.

The movement of trains is governed by the
principles of the underlying signalling system
that is being simulated and by the current
timetable.
The RailNET STS provides the following features:

equipment and communications failure injection |

duplication of the physical interfaces and data communications
protocols as used in the real world environment, |
 |
simulation rates above and below real-time, |
 |
replay of events that have been captured in the real world RailNET
ATMS, |
 |
replay of generated and scripted scenarios, and |
 |
movement of trains based on a selected timetable. |
The RailNET STS is relatively independent of the RailNET ATMS and
may be used in conjunction with train control and supervision systems
that are provided by other vendors.
In addition to operating in a real-time mode (interacting in real-time with
a train management system), the RailNET STS may also be configured to
operate independently, also referred to an offline mode of operation, in
order to verify timetable data such as inter-station transit times.
